Dedicated Servers

Our dedicated server business combines all the MWP Hosting expertise and technical know-how needed for you to run your critical applications with confidence on our server platforms. Security patching, off-site backups and specialist knowledge come as standard to provide you with precisely the level of service you need.

Server minimum spec

MWP Hosting uses Dell servers.

  • CPU: Dual Core AMD Opteron™ 2216; 2.4GHz, 2X1MB Cache, 95W, 1Ghz HyperTransport.
  • Drives: 2 x 160GB in RAID1 configuration to mirror all data to back-up disk.
  • Usable storage: 95GB available for data + 20GB of database space.
  • Memory: 2GB RAM.
  • 1.2 Guaranteed bandwidth* 50GB/month.

Server housing

MWP Hosting servers are located in a custom-designed secure data centre in Worcestershire.

Physical site access control, CCTV and internal proximity locking systems combine with a documented and logged access control procedures. The data floor environment is monitored and maintained by redundant cooling circuits, and power supplied to servers is backed up via a combination of battery based UPS units and diesel generators with over 86 hours of fuel maintained on-site at all times.

Data travels over multiple telecoms carriers, diversely routed, terminating in multiple locations, all delivered over a resilient backbone. On-site Fibre Providers are BT (Stratford, Ipsley & Redditch Headless Cross exchanges), and Virgin Media [ntl & Telewest connections] (Studley, Bromsgrove & Kings Norton exchanges). Deliveries via independent ducts from public highway.

Full alarm system is monitored 24x7 and site has a PAC access control system with audit logs and formal documented site access policy.

Internal and external CCTV record 90 days of motion activated capture.

Server management

Monitoring

Servers are monitored for failure 24hrs a day and server statistics are available on request.

System maintenance

System and application software is maintained at the latest security patch versions available.

Disaster recovery

System and all server applications can be reinstalled from server disk images stored off-site.

Data can be reinstalled from off-site backup (see below for details on backups).

Telephone and email support

Requests for support should be sent to a dedicated support desk which is monitored 24hrs a day by the engineering team. Emails to this address also generate an SMS alert to notify the support desk manager.

A notification email must be sent to trigger the emergency response (see below).

Support requests are processed at the support desk in order of (first) priority and (second) time/date of receipt.

All emails are acknowledged and time-stamped to confirm receipt. If a confirmation is not received, then the email has not been received at the helpdesk and should be resent.

Service levels

Emergency response (server not operational or service not operational)

  • Server restart/service restart 1hr
  • Services covered by this emergency response are:
  • SMTP (mail sending)
  • POP3/IMAP (and secure POP3/IMAP) mail receiving webserver.
  • Secure webserver.
  • FTP file upload/download.
  • MySQL database.
  • Nameserver operation.
  • For each 30minute period over 1hr when server/service remains nonoperational between the hours of 9.00am and 9.00pm a credit of 5% of monthly fee will be issued up to a maximum of 100% of monthly fee.

To trigger the emergency response MWP Hosting must be notified by email that one of the above services is not operational.

Server performance issues 24hrs.

 

Back-ups and protection of critical data

  • Daily on-server backups.
  • A back-up copy of all previous day's files and databases is stored on the server daily.
  • Weekly off-server backups and archive.
  • A weekly copy of files and databases is stored on a back-up server. Each weekly backup is retained for 1 month.
  • Weekly off-site backups.
  • A weekly backup of files is also stored on a server located off-site.

Database business continuity assurance

All databases are backed up to a second server at agreed intervals throughout the day. Typical backup schedule is 9.00am, 2.00pm, 4.00pm and 6.00pm.
